Acts 12 gives accounts of 2 of the 3 disciples that were in Jesus' "circle of three:" James & Peter. James is martyred for his faith by Herod; Peter is delivered from the very same prison by the angel of the LORD. Two very different outcomes, both testifying to promise Jesus gave in Matthew 28:20 - "I will be with you always, even to the very end of the age."

Monday Jul 11, 2011
Monday Jul 11, 2011
This is the 're-done' message from our Book of ACTS series - originally, this message was for Sunday, 3 July. However, we had a glitch in our recording equipment, & the entire message wasn't recorded. So, I (Louie) sat in my office today & did a 'redo.' That was a first! Our text for the message today is Acts 6:7 - 8:3, & we're reviewing the story of the witness & martyrdom of Stephen.

ACTS #10 - Philip & Simon
Sunday Jul 10, 2011
Sunday Jul 10, 2011
The persecution that erupted after the death of Stephen drove the believers out of Jerusalem to the 4 corners of the world - they were running for their lives. As they went, they took the gospel with them, & everyone, everywhere that they encountered heard the message of forgiveness of sins, repentance, water baptism, & ultimately, the baptism with the Holy Spirit. Our text today is Acts 8:3-25, & it centers on one of the Greek speaking Jews that had been appointed to care for widows in Acts 6: Philip. This passage follows Philip on his travels to Samaria, as well as his interactions with an eager new believer, Simon, a former magician/sorceror.

ACTS #8 - Trouble with the Widows
Monday Jun 27, 2011
Monday Jun 27, 2011
The church was buzzing in the wake of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and the steady stream of signs, wonders, & miracles that followed the preaching & teaching of the gospel. Every day, more men & women came to the faith & were added to the church. A problem arose, however, that was directly tied to the miraculous growth: a group of Hellenistic Jews had a complaint. The Greek-cultured widows were not being adequately cared for or provided for in the daily distribution of food, clothes, & resources; something had to change. In this message, staff pastor Ben Locke talks from Acts 6.

ACTS #6 - Praying For Boldness
Sunday Jun 12, 2011
Sunday Jun 12, 2011
The text for today is Acts 3:11-4:31 - The Jewish ruling council had threatened the apostles with imprisonment, beatings, or worse, simply because they were teaching & healing in the Name of Jesus... When faced with these threats, the disciples didn't ask for protection or safety from harm; they prayed to be filled with boldness, & that the Name of Jesus would be glorified through them...

ACTS #4 - The Church Goes Active
Monday May 23, 2011
Monday May 23, 2011
About 120 disciples, men & women, gathered in an upper room, most likely located in/near the temple, for the purpose of waiting. This waiting wasn't without purpose - they were anticipating the Promise of the Father... & they were not disappointed. On the day of Pentecost (during the feast of the same name), they heard a sound like a rushing wind; saw what looked like tongues of fire resting upon each of them; & they all spoke in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gave them the ability. And what were they saying? These men & women declared the mighty works of God in languages that were understood by Hebrews that had gathered from all over the known world - Mesopotamia. Cyrene. Libya. Egypt. Rome. The Jewish sojourners from all over the world asked the same question: "What does this mean?" That's what we're talking about today - our the text for today is Acts 2:1-41.
