Monday Feb 28, 2011
“You have heard it said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemies.’ But I say to you, ‘Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may children of your Father who is in Heaven.’”
With this, Jesus challenges His followers to a different way of life & of interacting with the people around them – a way that reflects God’s love, care, & perspective on humanity.
Our series called, “Our Life Together” concludes today with a speech entitled “Love Your Enemies.” We’re exploring what that means & looks like, lived out in the Real World. Our texts today are Matthew 5:43-48 & John 13:34,35

Our Life Together #2 - Love is...

One of the scripture readings I've most often heard included in the wedding ceremony comes from "The Love Chapter," aka 1Corinthians 13. You might recognize the oft-quoted lines:
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. While that's a great list of qualities to be true of the love in a husband & wife relationship, marriage wasn't the context of the Apostle Paul's detailing of what "Love is... & love isn't..." He was addressing a church full of people that he knew well; a people in conflict with each other, focusing on being 'spiritual' while neglecting the 'most excellent way.' Today, we explore what it could look like to live & love well within a community of people.

Our Life Together #1 - Love is a Verb
Monday Feb 07, 2011
Monday Feb 07, 2011
As Jesus entered His last hours on earth before His crucifixion, He intentionally communicated & restated His love, care, & final instructions. Included in these talks was the MAIN THING: Jesus challenged the disciples, His friends, with a new commandment: Love one another in the same way & manner that they had seen in Jesus' own example. This is vital, Jesus said, because when we love others in this way, (agape love) we are living evidence to all who see & experience it, that we are Christ-followers, & we belong to Him, not just in our words but also in our actions. The title today is "Love is a Verb" (with apologies to DC Talk.) Our text for today is John 13:34,35
