Thanksgiving #4 - With My Whole Heart

Last week I was reading in the Psalms & came across the following passage in Psalm 9:1

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of Your wonderful deeds.

The phrase "with my whole heart," really caught my eye. It's a declaration from the psalmist that there is no room for half-hearted thankfulness when it comes to giving thanks to the LORD; He deserves all of our hearts. I did a word search & found several other times where the same phrase shows up...

As I meditated on this scripture, it struck me as significant that giving thanks with the whole heart is an action of faith - there's no part of the heart left for doubting, complaining, being critical, or doubleminded. The "whole heart" means all, 100% of the attention (& affection) is directed at the LORD; recounting & remembering the good He's done speaks of an intentional inclining of the heart, eyes, mind, & will TOWARDS faithful thanksgiving - & a 'bent' that looks for opportunities for thankfulness.

Our main texts for the day are 1Thessalonians 5:16-18, Psalm 9, & Psalm 86:7.
